Much happened during those wonderful, warm summer days at the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos as the Board of Directors and staff defined and developed protocol that allows in person retreats. By the way, “masks indoors” is the current Santa Clara County mandate by which JRC abides. By the end of summer, retreatants were eagerly gathering at the Retreat Center.
Now in the Autumn months, JRC has retreats and programs to offer, plus some extracurricular activities for almost anyone.
Retreats Change Lives is that most wonderful time of year when a collection of personal stories are posted to our social media that culminates on #GivingTuesday, November 30, 2021.
Everyone is welcomed to share a JRC story. Videos from phones, power presentations or any media that can be shown online are accepted. Email Dyane Hendricks at dhendricks@jrclosaltos.org if interested.
Perhaps your video will be chosen for the Kick-Off, the free virtual event at 6 pm on November 8 that begins our Retreats Change Lives journey. Fr. Tom Weston is the Featured Speaker. Fr. Tom has devoted most of his priestly life to counseling alcoholics and other addicts and leads several recovery retreats at JRC every year. Kim Manca, Chair of the Board of Directors, will be the Emcee.
An outstanding team of board members and community volunteers worked diligently to plan this wonderful social media experience. Thanks to Tom Fike, Liz Hanley, Andrea Crawford, Lois Pileri, and Mimi Ly for their ideas and contributions.
Information about registering for the November 8 Retreats Change Lives Kick Off will be made available soon on your favorite social media site including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram as well as the JRC website and our bimonthly email announcements. In the meantime, get those phones out and start recording.
Take some time to read through the 2020 Annual Report to learn how much donor support means to JRC. There is a list of donors, messages from Kim Manca and Fr. Chi Ngo, the Executive Director, plus articles about looking to the future with the new logo and how to remain a part of The Jesuit Retreat Center by joining the brand new El Retiro Society.
The Greatest Generation. Boomers. Gen Xers. Millennials. Your membership in El Retiro Society is your gift to all generations at the Retreat Center. El Retiro is the new JRC legacy society. Free to join, membership includes a complimentary annual Mass and Dinner. The past 1 ½ years has been rough. But our donors and retreatants stayed the course with JRC, knowing that better days had to eventually come. Members in the El Retiro Society will be known for that constant optimism.
