“…so that you may realize the certainty of the teachings you have received.” (Lk 1.4) This verse from the opening paragraph of Luke’s Gospel describes of purpose of this sacred writing to a First-Century Christian Gentile community. The Gospel of Luke addresses pastoral concerns and tensions that are very similar to the needs of today’s Church: care for the poor, welcoming the stranger, stewardship, discerning the Spirit, reconciliation, and developing a life of prayer. As the Jubilee Year of 2025 begins, we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope—which is not mere wishful thinking, but a hope rooted in the confidence that God continues to labor for and minister to us and the needs of the world.
During this liturgical year of Cycle C, we will be hearing the Gospel of Luke preached each Sunday during 2025. This retreat provides an opportunity to consider and pray with the Gospel of Luke as a whole, presenting strong themes that are addressed to the Gentile Community, but also pertain to us. This weekend retreat will also present different styles of mental prayer from the Ignatian tradition. In this era of synodality and renewed interest in the life in the Spirit through discernment, this weekend presents a very fine way to begin the Holy Year of Grace.
