Silent Retreat for Women & Men

The four "weeks" of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius will guide our look at God's forgiveness and at the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, so that we may come to a greater awareness of God's love in our lives.

Fr. Gerald F. Hudson, S.J., was, for many years, a mathematics teacher (at Loyola High School, Loyola Marymount University, and St. Ignatius College Preparatory). He has served several times as a director in the JRC 36-day program. He joined the staff of the JRC in August of 2006 and has been involved in retreats and spiritual direction.

Ruby C. Buffin, Ph. D., M.Div., a graduate of our Pierre Favre Program, is a Certified Catholic Chaplain who holds a Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University (Berkeley campus), and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She has worked as a Pastoral Associate at St. Stephen Church in San Francisco and was earlier on staff in the department of Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and at the Diagnostic Center of Northern California. Dr. Buffin enjoys listening to music, writing poetry, playing the piano, and singing.

After earning a B.S. in Mathematics from Loyola University of Los Angeles, he received an M.A. in Philosophy from Gonzaga University and an S.T.M. in Theology from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley. A lecturer in Philosophy at Loyola University of Los Angeles from 1967 to 1969, his subsequent high school teaching focused on Scripture and Catholic Christianity.

After the normal course of training at Los Gatos, Fr. Jim majored in philosophy and English at Gonzaga University, graduating in 1967. He taught at Loyola High School, Los Angeles from 1967-1970, and after theological studies at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, he graduated with an M.Div. in 1973. He was ordained a priest on June 15, 1973. That same year he completed a Master's Degree in English at Loyola University, Los Angeles. More about Fr. Jim

Ms. Barbara Nelson is a spiritual director and a graduate of the Pierre Favre Training Program on the Spiritual Exercises at the Jesuit Retreat Center. In January 2009 she attended the international Ignatian Common Apostolic Discernment workshop in Rome. She is a native and resident of San Francisco. Barbara does retreat work at JRC and in her parish, St. Agnes, where she also offers the 30 week Spiritual Exercises. Ignatian Spirituality is her passion. She enjoys photography.

Fr. Duc Vu, S.J., a software engineer before joining the Jesuits, was ordained in 2002 and served in a parish until 2007. An M.F.A. in Creative Writing reflects his interest in life as story. He likes to explore the creative dynamic among stories human and divine, as well as the fascinating dialectic between our corporeality and spirituality.
