Dolores L. Nice, M.A., has a strong connection with the Sisters of Mercy: She has been a Mercy Associate for 18 years, was part of their national associate leadership team for four years; and a co-director for their California/ Arizona Association for 12 years. She completed a certificate of Spiritual Direction at Mercy Center in Burlingame, and assists with various retreats at Mercy Center. Dolores has a Master’s degree from San Francisco State University in Educational Administration. She has over 30 years experience in teaching and school administration, and has participated in teacher training programs. Dolores later earned a Masters of Arts in Applied Theology from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. She completed a one-year internship as Chaplain at the Federal Prison for Women in Dublin, California. At the prison she initiated monthly retreats, pastoral care, and spiritual direction for the inmates. Working in association with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, she now ministers at the San Mateo County Jail, teaching a weekly Bible Study Class and conducting Catholic Liturgy on Sundays. She also teaches a Life Skill class at a transitional home for women released from prison. Dolores is both bilingual (English/Spanish) and bicultural, having emigrated to the United States when she was five years old from Nicaragua in Central America. Most recently, Dolores assisted with the 2007 Retreat in Spanish here at JRC.
